Justin, Mickey and "colorful plastic buttons"
Athlete-musician hybrids are generally a terrible idea. I won't name names, but there are quite a few great examples out there of why sports stars need to stay on the field and never pick up a microphone.
What they should apparently be doing, though, is entering video game competitions. The other day at our RazorGator Fan Junket (a.k.a. the Hooters party) and our BBQ that followed, a couple of the athletes wowed us with their superhuman abilities… in Guitar Hero.
As an A's and Cal fan, I've seen what pitcher Justin Duchscherer and linebacker Mickey Pimentel can do in a stadium full of cheering fans. Even better, though, was watching these guys rock out on plastic guitars that look like they're made for preschoolers. And when I say "rock out," I mean whooping me on Expert while I'm playing on Medium. Ouch.
Athletes are constantly portrayed as "dumb jocks" who only know how to throw a ball or hit people, but don't be fooled by the stereotype. You never know what hidden talents may lie underneath that lovely, muscly exterior. They might also be really good at pushing colorful plastic buttons.
