Against the Kentucky Wildcats, star forward Jaylin Williams went down for the Auburn Tigers with a knee injury.

At first, this knee injury looked more serious than it ended up being as it won't require surgery, but Williams will miss some time. Auburn will need to finish the season strong in SEC play to secure a double bye in the SEC Tournament and a good seed in the NCAA Tournament. This means while Williams rehabs and gets ready for the postseason, or whenever he is ready to return, someone needs to step up.

The most likely candidate to be the "someone" is division two transfer Chaney Johnson. The 6'7 G/F combo plays 14.7 minutes per game and is averaging 3.8 points per game. With Williams out of the lineup, we will see a lot more minutes for Johnson, which will hopefully give him some confidence. Johnson had a really good game against the Florida Gators, scoring nine points in 17 minutes while going 3-4 from the field.

Coach Pearl had this to say about Johnson when he decided to transfer to Auburn, "Chaney's journey is the perfect example of the great American dream. He graduates from Thompson High School, goes to UAH to play for John Shulman, grows four inches, leads his team to a conference championship, becomes player of the year in three years, and now has the opportunity to play at Auburn in the SEC. Chaney's hard work, dedication, length and athleticism, have enabled him to become quite the talent. He will have the opportunity to impact our team right away. Auburn Basketball just got better."

One player you don't expect always plays well in March, and perhaps that could be Johnson.
