Auburn came away with a hard-fought victory over Jacksonville State in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Friday, and a chipped tooth and bloody elbow are the battle scars that can prove it.

Auburn forwards Walker Kessler and Jaylin Williams had a brutal collision early in the second half that left Williams with chipped teeth and Kessler with a bloody elbow. Sideline reporter Tracy Wolfson said during the CBS broadcast that Williams “chipped his two front teeth and was in a lot of pain.” She also said Kessler had an “extremely large gash on his elbow.” You can see the aftermath below:

Believe it or not, a piece of Williams’ tooth actually ended up in Kessler’s elbow. Some reporters who were covering the game witnessed it.

That’s never a good thing.

Auburn cruised to a 80-61 victory to advance to the second round, so at least Williams and Kessler had something to show for their injuries.
