20 songs that remind us of a mother's love

Boyz II Men evoked all of the emotion with the first few lyrics of their 1997 single "A Song for Mama." The lyrics are touching and remind listeners how special a mother's bond is with her son.

Jessie J spoke to all of us with her song "Mama Knows Best." The track's meaning is in the title — mama (literally) knows best and gave us some of the best advice we'd ever heard.

Mom, when you read this, just know that I agree with Stevie. You are the sunshine of my life.

Beyoncé sang about her love for her firstborn, Blue Ivy, in the 2013 track "Blue." "When I look in your eyes / I feel alive," she sings, reminding us of what our mom has said to us.

In another song, "Heaven," Beyoncé sang about her unfortunate miscarriage. The song starts with touching lyrics, "I fought for you / The hardest / But Heaven couldn't wait for you."

The Intruders paid homage to their mom's hard work and dedication in their 1973 song "I'll Always Love My Mama." They praise her as "one of a kind" and their "favorite girl," which we couldn't agree with more.

The Temptations always got it right, and their song "Oh, Mother of Mine" is the perfect example. They sang about getting to a point in life where they realized their mother's words were right. And we can confirm that if those "gotcha" moments haven't happened to you yet, they're coming.

Despite the tough act, some men are true mama's boys deep inside, and 2Pac revealed that in his single "Dear Mama."

We sing this song every Sunday during our drive to Mom's house for the essentials: food, supplies, and anything new she may have picked up during the week.

LL Cool J's grandmother's advice rang true for us. Although our mom's advice wasn't to turn physical, she did motivate us to be bold and confident in all aspects of life. 

Kasey Musgraves' song "Mother" has touching lyrics about missing time with her loved one because they're far apart. It reminded us to stay thankful for all the quick pop-ups and drive-bys we experience being so close to home. 

Beyoncé sings about being her kids' protector and biggest fan in this track from her Cowboy Carter record. "Even though I know, someday, you're gonna shine on your own, I will be your projector," she sings.

Lauren Alaina's song "Like My Mother Does" is so relatable because I picked up many of her habits, all of which I'm more than proud of. 

There's a section of this song where Beyoncé sings about her bloodline, kinfolk, and skinfolk. During her Renaissance World Tour, she performed this part alongside her daughter, Blue Ivy, and it reminded us of a mother's love.

Our mom can't sing like Adele, but if she could, hopefully, one of her songs would be dedicated to us, like the singer's 2015 single "Sweetest Devotion." She revealed the lyrics, "The sweetest devotion I've known," are about her son, whom she delivered in 2012. 

In her freestyle treat "Speechless," Alicia Keys sings about her adoration for her child. The groovy chorus includes moving lyrics, "I'm just speechless, baby / Don't know what to say."

Lauryn Hill kept it real in her song "To Zion," where she sings about people wanting her to end her pregnancy for the sake of her career. "I knew his life deserved a chance," the lyrics read.

We didn't end up as bad as Merle Haggard sang about in his song "Mama Tried," but we know we probably made things more challenging than they needed to be during some of our earlier years. Thanks for keeping it together, mama!

Alec Benjamin's "If We Have Each Other" has a verse dedicated to a devoted mother who is willing to do anything for her child's success. When singing along to this one, we can't help but think about our own mom.

Tori Kelly sang about her mother always being a safe place for her whenever she needed it in her single "Always Love You," and we couldn't agree with her more. There's nothing like the comfort that comes from your mom's love when you need it most.
