The Toronto Blue Jays have announced that Davis Schneider, Daniel Vogelbach, and Ernie Clement will be their Opening Day bench players. All three earned their spots, as they all played well in spring training. From long home runs to impressive catches, these three players have worked hard to showcase their talent and skills at the plate and in the field.

Blue Jays Announce Their Opening Day Bench Players

Schneider, Clement, and Vogelbach

All three players put up decent numbers this spring and had their moments last season. Clement worked vigorously to earn this role. In 30 games played with the Blue Jays last season, Clement recorded a .380 batting average, 19 hits, 10 RBI, and seven runs scored. Schneider was first promoted to the major leagues on August 4, 2023. In his first major league at-bat for Toronto, Schneider hit a home run against James Paxton of the Boston Red Sox. He made it into baseball history early, as he became the first player in MLB history to collect nine hits and two homers in his first three games. Schneider is the youngest of the players that made the bench and must feel proud to have made the roster.

Lastly, Vogelbach has been impressive in spring training, showcasing some pop with three homers that were fun to watch. He also recorded four RBI and seven hits, with two doubles. It is also worth noting that Schneider made an unbelievable catch in the outfield against the Pittsburgh Pirates. A Pirates player even reacted to the catch by saying, “That’s illegal.” Daniel Vogelbach also put up decent numbers in 2023.  He had a .233 batting average, 64 hits, 13 homers, 48 RBIs, and 33 runs scored in 104 games with the New York Mets.

It will be exciting to see Schneider, Clement, and Vogelbach, three players who will get the opportunity to showcase their talent for Toronto in 2024. Blue Jays fans will want to see how these three players continue performing for the rest of spring training. The Blue Jays have showcased improved numbers with RISP this spring, which was an issue in the 2023 season. These three players should feel proud to have made the Blue Jays team this season. With Opening Day this Thursday, March 28, the regular season is right on the horizon.
