Jaylen Brown has some strong words for Derrick White after Game 1 win against the Cavs
Benny Sieu-USA TODAY Sports

With one of their leading superstars Kristaps Porzingis out, many thought that the Boston Celtics would have to dig deep and pull through in the 1st round. However, instead of pulling through, they have been dominant so far.

Usually, the likes of Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum are the ones leading the charge. Instead, it is Derrick White who has put on a show. After the game, sideline reporter Stephanie Ready asked Brown why White’s name is not popular.

If you don't know Derrick White, you better get to know him. That man has been balling. And he's just getting started. Hell of a game from him tonight. Jaylen Brown replied

Brown essentially said that fans and media should acknowledge his teammate’s impact. Derrick White has surged to be one of the constant and most dominant threats in these playoffs.

His logic is not wrong. Throughout most of the regular season, the Boston Celtics looked like a team that was sending most of their offense through Brown, Porzingis, and Tatum. However, with the big man out, the offense needed a third guy to step up.

After averaging 16 points a game in the first three fixtures when Porzingis was available, White’s production has taken a huge leap. That average number has almost doubled in the three games since. It goes to show that the 7-year veteran can turn it up when it matters.

Derrick White’s production crucial for Boston Celtics championship hopes

When Kristaps Porzingis left the game with a calf injury, most analysts suggested that they need the big man back if they are to win the championship. Porzingis uses his length and floor spacing to help his teammates going. A crucial element in their hopes of an 18th title. However, he still needs time to return to the court.

In the meantime, the Boston Celtics have to ensure that they win enough games to keep a seat in the NBA Finals ready and warm for their big man. Jrue Holiday is not the offensive threat that can solve their problems. However, Derrick White can. The city of Boston will be hoping that he can keep this 3-game playoff streak intact until June.

Maybe then NBA fans and media will really know who Derrick White is. Jaylen Brown can speak for him, but his performances will speak out his name louder.
