San Antonio Spurs: Victor Wembanyama Gets Honest After NBA Players Surprise Him With 2024 Recruitment Offers

During a recent appearance at Ringer NBA, Wemby talked about various aspects of his recently concluded debut NBA season. He discussed the highs and lows of NBA basketball and how it differs from his experience in France.

One of the more interesting sections of his guesting was how players have already reached out to him in the hopes of building a championship-caliber roster.

Ishaan Bhattacharya of Fadeaway World recorded his observation, and it gives San Antonio Spurs fans an interesting look at how Wemby looks at the entire thing:

“Yeah, I’ve received some messages – even from prospects… It’s a whole new world that I’m eager to discover. One day, I’ll have to be involved in this [roster construction], I guess.”

The fact that he even got messages from players who aren’t even in the NBA yet maybe surprising for some of the NBA crowd, but social media has made reaching out a lot easier than back then.

However, it’s interesting that Wemby ceded that roster building is an inevitability for him is a great sign that he’s not going anywhere.

Why are NBA players eager to team up with the San Antonio Spurs star?

Wembanyama’s phenomenal showing during his rookie season is the biggest reason why players are actively reaching out with offers to team up.

Through the 71 games he played this season, he averaged 21.4 points, 10.6 rebounds, 3.9 assists, 1.2 steals, and a league-leading 3.6 blocks. He isn’t wasteful with his shot as he’s making 46.5% of his shot attempts and 79.6% from the free-throw line. While his 32.5% accuracy from three is respectable, it could still use improvement.

The fact that he managed to convert such numbers while still getting used to the pace and physicality of the NBA only shows that his numbers will skyrocket in the coming years. With such a trajectory, it’s a no-brainer that players want to come to the Spurs and help him win his first Larry O’Brien trophy.
