Chicago Bears Coach Gets Honest About D’Andre Swift
Trevor Ruszkowski-USA TODAY Sports

The Chicago Bears wasted no time in securing the talents of former Philadelphia Eagles running back, D’Andre Swift, as soon as free agency kicked off.

Head coach Matt Eberflus revealed that this swift move was a calculated decision.

“We just felt that we wanted a home-run hitter there. I think D’Andre brings that. We wanted a weapon back – a guy who could be a weapon out of the backfield.”

Adding Swift to their roster, alongside the acquisition of the esteemed wide receiver Keenan Allen and the deep-threat D.J. Moore, sets up a favorable environment for the anticipated No. 1 overall draft pick, Caleb Williams, to step into the quarterback position seamlessly.

Eberflus was particularly drawn to Swift’s ability to excel in various aspects of the game. His knack for creating big plays both in rushing and receiving roles made him a coveted asset for the Bears.

During the previous season, Swift showcased his prowess by surpassing 1,000 rushing yards for the first time in his career, ending the 2023 season with 1,049 yards on the ground and five touchdowns. Additionally, he contributed significantly in the passing game with 39 receptions for 214 yards and another score, despite the Eagles’ offensive struggles.

Eberflus envisions Swift playing a pivotal role in elevating the Chicago Bears’ offensive performance in the upcoming 2024 season.

Chicago demonstrated their confidence in D’Andre Swift by swiftly securing his services. In a proactive move during the NFL’s legal tampering period, the Bears inked a lucrative three-year contract with Swift, valued at $24 million. The deal includes a substantial $15.28 million guaranteed, featuring a fully-guaranteed signing bonus of $14 million.
