Dallas Cowboys Drop Major Hint On Ezekiel Elliott’s Role

The Dallas Cowboys have once again secured the services of Ezekiel Elliott, re-signing him as a free agent this offseason to address a pressing need in their running back corps.

In a move reflecting their confidence in his abilities, they inked him to a one-year deal.

Despite advancing in age, Cowboys Vice President of Player Personnel, Will McClay, remains bullish on Elliott’s potential to excel as a starter in the NFL.

McClay emphasized, “Zeke’s a winning, starting running back in the league. You turn on the tape, you saw him do things, running power gap scheme, running inside/outside zones, helping in pass protection. All those things to show that the ability was still there.”

McClay further underscored the value Elliott brings beyond his on-field performance, citing his passion for the game, commitment to the team’s success, and leadership qualities.

He remarked, “And then adding him to this roster, it adds a guy, No. 1 that loves football, that wants to win here, wants to be here, and adds something to the roster from a leadership standpoint, as well as his ability to play.”

During his tenure with the New England Patriots last season, Elliott demonstrated his durability by appearing in all 17 games, tallying 184 carries for 642 yards and three touchdowns.

With four 1,000-yard rushing seasons under his belt, most recently in 2021, Ezekiel Elliott brings a wealth of experience and production to the Dallas Cowboys’ backfield.

Joining a running back room featuring Rico Dowdle, Deuce Vaughn, and Royce Freeman, Elliott’s return bolsters the team’s offensive arsenal and adds depth to their ground game.
