Jaguars WR DJ Chark has surgery for broken finger, expected to be ready for Week 1

Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver DJ Chark had surgery to repair a broken finger on his right hand, but head coach Urban Meyer said the 24-year-old should be ready to return for the team's season opener against the Houston Texans on Sept. 12, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. 

Chark had a plate inserted into the finger, Meyer said. He had missed the two practices before Sunday's scrimmage.

Chark has led the Jags in receiving in each of the past two seasons. In 2020, he caught 53 passes for 706 yards and five touchdowns. Injuries plagued Chark last season, though, as he missed time with chest, rib and ankle ailments. 

He was even better in 2019, totaling 73 catches for 1,008 yards and eight scores.

Chark is in the final year of his rookie contract, and it's unclear if the Jaguars have plans to extend him beyond the 2021 campaign. 

Jacksonville added Marvin Jones Jr. and Phillip Dorsett II in free agency and are expecting Laviska Shenault Jr. to shine this fall.
